  • The Tale of Rainbow’S End

    Margaret Evans

eBook (Xlibris UK, Dec. 30, 2011)
This story is a childrens fantasy that originally came from a dream. It begins with a bedroom scene where Lucy awakens surrounded by a strange eerie light. She is whisked into the fantasy world in order to assist in a special task of making rainbows. The Rainbow maker is Soup, a strange little man who is dressed as an artist with oddly coloured hair, skin and clothes. He persuades Lucy that he needs her especially as his transport is the beautiful horse Joe - that once belonged to her. There are references here of Lucys tragic loss and the acknowledgment to the young reader of their own fears of losing loved ones.Throughout the journey, the friends experience a variety of problems but also wonderful times where magical things assist them.Although this story is a fantasy I believe it would appeal to readers age 6/7 to 12 years as the language is fairly advanced. It would also appeal to younger children if read by an adult. The full-page ink illustrations and a variety of smaller symbolic drawings are included throughout the text.

    language (, Aug. 9, 2017)
Marco the Malta Bus Memory Flash Cards are designed to accompany Marco the Malta Bus Book 1. Within the list of words there are all the words needed to be able to read over 25% of any children's book in English according to research done by Warwick University. ScienceDaily states: "After learning new words, brain sees them as pictures. The findings not only help reveal how the brain processes words, but also provides insights into how to help people with reading disabilities, says Maximilian Riesenhuber PhD." "For people who cannot learn words by phonetically spelling them out -- which is the usual method for teaching reading -- learning the whole word as a visual object may be a good strategy." Georgetown University Medical Center. "After learning new words, brain sees them as pictures." ScienceDaily, 24 March 2015. Our Memory Flash Cards are designed to do just that and by including the most used words, the motivation to read is enhanced because only these words appear in Marco the Malta Bus Book 1. Download these Memory Flash Cards and gradually show them to your child until they can recognise them. Then the child is ready to read them on the pages and detect them in the amusing story about Marco and his friends, designed to be read by an adult. Only read the book as far as your child has pre- learned the words. This method is suitable for all children but especially for bilingual children (there is an audio CD for pronunciation too), dyslexic and autistic children as well as children with learning difficulties who struggle with an entirely phonic approach. Get your child ahead of the game - you can do this at home, on a journey, as a game but keep it fun and short!

  • Marco the Malta Bus

    Margaret Evans

Paperback (Austin Macauley Publishing, March 30, 2018)
A systematic soft cover reading scheme book with coloured, detailed and comical illustrations on all 99 pages. The book begins with single words presented on a blank page with a colourful illustration for the child to read out loud. The single words gradually develop into short simple sentences made up entirely from target words for the child to read out loud alone. Interleaved with the simple sentence pages, is a story about the adventures of the main characters as they travel around Malta. These story pages are designed to be read out by the adult to the point where a new target word needs to be learned. These pages of story gradually include the learned target words which are printed in bold for the adult to pause at for the child to read out aloud so that paired reading takes place. The first time a target word appears on the simple sentence pages or the adult read story it will be printed at the bottom of the page. The book is intended to be used with the free Memory/flash cards which can be downloaded from Marco the Malta Bus website. According to research, 16 words included in this first reading book make up 25% of all the words in a typical book.

Paperback (Laughing Elephant, Sept. 1, 2006)
This is our sixth reproduction of a shaped children's book, and our fourth illustrated by Margaret Evans Price. Price has certainly proved popular with our customers, and for good reason. Her illustrations are pretty and fanciful. She is especially gifted at depicting children in a stylized yet not cartoonish manner. In The Betty Fairy Book (1915) a little girl ? Betty ? inadvertently angers the fairies by wearing a fairy crown that she finds and dancing ?on fairy ground?. The fairies decide to banish her to a boat, on which Betty bravely faces several hardships. Betty's courage endears her to the fairies, who relent and take Betty to fairyland where she is cared for and given gifts. Betty comes away from her adventure with fairy souvenirs and new friends. This charming tale is richly illustrated and will appeal to both children and sentimental adults.
